Max Guard Roof Rejuvenation
Extend the life of your roof with soy-based rejuvenation technology – backed by 35+ years of roofing experience.
What Is Roof Rejuvenation?
As asphalt shingles age, the oils within them evaporate. That’s what causes shingles to go brittle, lose granules, and eventually crack — long before the underlying roof deck or structure has any problem at all. Soy-based rejuvenation treatments work by restoring those lost oils. The solution is sprayed onto the roof, penetrates into the asphalt layer, and re-softens the shingle material, restoring flexibility and helping the granules adhere the way they did when the roof was new.
This isn’t a coating that sits on top of your shingles like paint. A true rejuvenation product soaks in and works from within the shingle itself — which is an important distinction, because there are cosmetic-only “roof coating” products on the market that simply mask problems rather than treating them.
Introducing Max Guard
Max Guard is Kirk’s 5 Star Roofing’s own rejuvenation product, built on proven soy-based (soy methyl ester) technology — the same underlying science that’s been developed and studied by soybean research organizations and university programs across the Midwest for exactly this application. We put our name behind it because after 35-plus years in this business, Kirk only offers products he’s confident stand up to Michigan’s climate and his own standards.
The Research Behind Roof Rejuvenation
This isn’t just an industry sales pitch — the underlying science has real, independent backing. A 2025 study published in the International Journal of Pavement Research and Technology tested soybean oil-based treatments on shingles 15-plus years old and found that the soy-based emulsions significantly improved flexibility, crack resistance, hail resistance, and flame resistance, with treated shingles reaching flexibility levels comparable to brand-new shingles. Separately, Ohio State University studied the effects of soy-based rejuvenation treatment applied to 17-year-old asphalt shingles, and soybean research organizations in Minnesota and North Dakota — including university programs at NDSU and research partnerships with the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council — have spent years developing and refining soy-based formulas specifically for roofing applications.
Max Guard is built on this same soy-based rejuvenation science — not a gimmick, but a technology with real research behind it.
How It Works
- Free Roof Assessment. Our crew inspects your roof to confirm it’s a good candidate for rejuvenation rather than replacement — we won’t sell you a treatment your roof doesn’t need.
- Professional Application. Max Guard is sprayed evenly across your entire roof surface, penetrating into the asphalt to begin restoring flexibility.
- Absorption. The treatment soaks into the shingles over the following hours, working from within rather than sitting on top as a coating.
- Extended Roof Life. Your shingles regain flexibility and durability — adding years of life to your existing roof without the cost, disruption, or landfill waste of a full tear-off.
Is Your Roof a Good Candidate?
Max Guard is a genuinely good option when:
- Your shingles are aging and brittle but the roof deck and structure underneath are still sound
- You’re not seeing active leaks, widespread missing shingles, or storm damage that needs repair first
- You’re looking to add years of life to a roof that isn’t ready for full replacement, or want to extend the timeline before that expense
It’s not the right fit if your roof has underlying structural issues, significant storm damage, or has already passed the point where the shingles themselves are failing rather than just aging. We’ll always give you an honest assessment during your free inspection — if your roof needs replacement, we’ll tell you that instead of selling you a treatment that just delays the inevitable.
